AR Filters

The Brief:

Great Wolf Lodge, a family water park and resort wanted to create an augmented reality filter to engage their fans.

The first filter was to promote GWL attractions. The second filter was designed to celebrate 25 year anniversary.

Wolf Ears and Attractions Filter:

For the first filter, GWL wanted to include their iconic wolf ears in the filter. Facebook AR filters have to be under a certain size. The filter needed to give wolf ears to the user but also not go over the triangle amount for the mesh. I built the ears in Blender and export them to Spark AR.

2D Elements:

The client wanted to use images of their water park and stills from animated content for their non water attractions. For the background images of the water park, I put a subtle filter on them to make them feel less like photographic so it would blend more easily with the animated stills. I edited the backgrounds in Photoshop

For the borders I wanted to go with something more illustrated to stand out from the background while also feeling like a simplified version of their 2d assets. I illustrated the borders in Illustrator.

Animation:

Due to the size limitations of Facebook AR, I was limited in what type of animations I could do. The solve was to animate the borders within the Spark AR Patch Editor and add a particle emitter with the GWL Paw logo when the user open their mouth. By adding these subtle motion, users have even more options to take selfies and create video content as well.

The AR filter was shared on Great Wolf Lodge’s Facebook and Instagram page. The Great Wolf Lodge filter had 6.3k impressions, 2.4k opens, and almost a 1,000 captures. Give the filter a try on your phone!

25th Anniversary Filter:

For this they wanted a filter that utilized there 25th anniversary icons and illustration but in a new fun way. I created glasses, hats, and a face paint asset based off of and using their already created assets. Try it out for yourself on Great Wold Lodge’s Instagram and Facebook page.
